Dada

Giacomo started saying 'Dada' today. Grandma Yuratovac heard it first. When he got home, he just kept saying it...Of course, until his Dada was in the room! Hopefully Mama is next!

First Vacation

John, Giacomo and I spent the long Memorial Day holiday at the family cottage in Frankfort, Michigan with John's cousins. Unfortunately, it is an 8 hour drive away but Giacomo was great in the car. On Friday, we drove in the evening and he slept a lot of the way. Monday home he needed some entertainment, which would be much easier if I didn't get car sick in the back seat. Anyway, we had a great time despite the crummy weather. The temperature stayed mostly in the 50s and low 60s. It did get up to the 70s on Sunday late afternoon. It was nice to spend some time in the beach in the sun. Here is Giacomo enjoying his new beach toys. The weekend went way too fast ... as most holiday weekends do.

Future Ohio University Graduate

I wanted to get a picture of Giacomo wearing his first pair of shorts on. He just happened to have on his OU T-shirt. Doesn't he look happy to be sporting the Ohio gear? I think he is definite Bobcat material!

Luck of the Migas

Let me tell you about my week! Two weeks ago I had the craziest week. I have been really busy at work logging about 50 - 60 hours a week. Anyway, we had a big deadline due about two weeks ago and I needed to work late all week to be ready. I worked late on Monday night. On Tuesday, we lost power before I got home from work and it was not restored until 8:30 that night. On Wednesday, I work from home. I was having problems with my laptop all morning. By lunchtime, my computer totally crashed and the Help Desk could not fix it remotely. I had to call John's dad and ask him to leave work so he could watch Giacomo while I drove into work. Unfortunately, they could not fix my laptop and I had to wait a day to get a replacement. I got a new computer on Thursday afternoon and was ready to go to finish up all the work I was unable to get done the previous two days. Thursday night, we lost power again! The weather was fine and there was barely any wind so who knows why. The power went out around 7 p.m. while I was putting Giacomo to bed and was not restored until 10 p.m. that night. I need to connect to my office network to do most of my work so it's nearly impossible to work without my modem running. Things like this used to happen to me all the time in college. One bad luck thing would happen and then it would snowball. My roomates would call it the "luck of the Migas". It hasn't happened in a long time. I hope it's a while before it happens again.

The time has finally come!

Giacomo has been sleeping throught the night for over a week now! Finally! He is 28 weeks old so it has been a long time coming. I have been only getting 4 or 5 hours of sleep at a time for 7 months. Last Sunday night he slept from 7:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. and then continued to do the same thing every night for a full week. What a great feeling to sleep seven straight hours.

Giacomo's sleeping through the night prompted me to stop breastfeeding. The biggest reason I was still doing it was to avoid having to warm up a bottle when he was crying at 3 a.m. The only other times I was feeding him was at night after dinner and first thing in the morning. After feeding him, he seemed to be hungry an hour later. I'm surprised that I really do miss it but it was time to be done.
